The trumpet player is a tribute to Miles Davis, "In a Silent Way". Miles was one of the greatest jazz musicians ever. His music, which Leonard often plays in his studio, had a hand in inspiring the musician dragons.

Leonard has long loved fantasy and whimsy. Dragons are mythical and magical creatures with serpentine or reptilian traits that have been the subject of legends for centuries. Up until the present, two cultural traditions of dragons existed, one from Europe and the Middle East, the other from the Far East. Now a unique and gentler dragon, not your typical dragon, has emerged from the New World…anthropomorphic dragons, some with musical talents and some that have discovered such as good wine, a fun poker night with best friends, or even riding a vespa through the city, all created by Leonard Filgate.

Leonard Filgate has worked as a fine artist and illustrator for over forty years. His whimsical and magical images are loved and collected worldwide. He has received many honors and accolades, including the honor of being the featured illustrator for the 2003 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and the Edward James Olmos Latino Family Festival in that same year.
