Artist's Description

Gabriel's horn, computer artwork. This is a surface of revolution, a shape made by rotating an area bounded by a curve around an axis that lies on the same plane. Gabriel's horn is created by rotating the curve y=1/x (yellow) around the X axis. The figure is cut off for values lower than x=1. The rotation creates a trumpet-like shape that has a finite volume, but an infinite surface area. The shape can be seen tapering off into infinity as the curve continues to approach the X axis but never touches it.
