Every so often we get to spend a day with family and no matter where we are it is a day to remember. This day I was able to go exploring with one of my little sisters and we ended up on Sugar Run Mountain in Virginia. A beautiful place especially in autumn.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors.
