...Deep in the heart
of the Loire River Valley are cave houses
that were built centuries ago
and many are still lived in.
We had the opportunity
to explore one of the old grand chateaux,
the great house of Rochambeau.
It is no longer available
for public touring,
but our cycling group
was granted a private visit.
There are many winding passages,
and secret caves,
many of the smaller ones
no longer inhabited
but very interesting to explore.
This one leads out to a little courtyard
next to the wine cave
where a meandering stream
makes it's way underneath
and through the belly
of the complex of hand-hewn
stone walls and rooms...
After 30 years in the floral and plant nursery business, Debra and Dave Vanderlaan sold both businesses and turned their life-long photography hobby into full-time obsession. The Vanderlaans are both award-winning photographers and well-known both domestically and internationally.
