This is fabulous Margaret! The colours, the capture and the story. l/f

Love this piece Margaret! You have captured a contagious smile here for sure! The colours you have chosen really get the feeling of joy across. I also love your description which helps to contextualise your work. All the best with sales for this and raising money for the worthy cause.

Makes me smile with her.

I like your work. This one makes me smile.

You have captured her very core! V/F

What a delight! She is shy, but thrilled to be noticed! Love it!

Margaret Bobb replied:

Thank you, Jane...I LOVE your comment.

Makes me smile, too.

Margaret Bobb replied:

Thank you, Beverly!

Congratulations for being featured in Painterly Fine Art group! You are invited to post this painting in our featured gallery for this month also found in the discussions.

t is enormously difficult to capture a smile in portraiture without making it look almost creepily static. You have done a marvelous job in portraying the strong emotions and expressions of this painting. The smile is engaging and delightful. I could look at her for hours!! perfect color choices!!

Margaret Bobb replied:

Thank you so much, Talya! Such a wonderful comment from such a superb portrait artist as yourself means the world to me! Thank you, too, for the feature!

What a shy girl! Nice job! One of my customer's did volunteer work in Haiti. She did several paintings of Haiti and the people and the sale of the prints and notecards have gone to Haiti reflief funds and to pay her and her husbands way back there. And thanks for your comments on my Fair Faces of Courage . . . that means a lot hearing from a vet. Keep up the good work. Bob Wilson, Jr.

Great capture and wonderful expression, Margaret! Thanks for your feedback on my "Mr Cool Hat"! Happy New Year!!!

Artist's Description

I fell in love with a photo of this little girl. To me, she has one of the most beautiful smiles in the world. In the setting in which I saw it, it was really shining in comparison to the other typical photos of sad-eyed orphans. After the show, I asked the photographer if I bought the image, would I be allowed to use it as a reference for a painting? She told me yes, as long as she got to see it! I carried it home and mused about how to render the painting. It got put aside for a few months, and then, the big earthquake happened in Haiti. It was the motivation I needed to get started. I made her skin a very dark purple in drybrush acrylic. This child may not be royal in the world's eyes, but she is more precious in God's eyes than any king of this earth, so to me, she IS royalty. I surrounded her with quinacridone gold watercolor sprinkled with salt, to represent the joy that exudes from this child. Her shortalls are a combination of drybrush acrylic and watercolor washes. I...

About Margaret Bobb

Margaret Bobb

Margaret Bobb, an impressionistic colorist born and reared in the vibrant arts community of New Orleans, LA, has lived in Boulder County, Colorado, USA for over 20 years. In 2007, she quit her day job to concentrate on art after a diagnosis of stage 4 ovarian cancer. She says, "My goal in art is to evoke emotions of joy, peace, harmony, and perhaps even a sense of wonder to people as they view my paintings. Realism used to be very important to me. But, as I've matured, I have found that my focus has changed from recording life to enjoying the sheer act of pushing, pulling or dropping colors onto a surface. I am a child of God, created in His image, so I love to create! There is so much ugliness in the world, I want to give beauty to...
