Artist's Description

These are very beautiful flowers that I found while camping in the mountains at Lake Cascade, Idaho. They are all over the hillside and really makes a beautiful. The Alpine Aster is a beautiful flower out in the wild or in your garden. It is good for rocky places or for the front of your flower bed. In the wild it can be found in the open slopes in subalpine to alpine habitats. Erect to decumbent flower stalks from rosette of many leaves. Narrow leaves 110 in. long in rosette, hairless; stem leaves are shorter, if present. Single flower head with many lavender to deep purple rays. Grows in meadows, moist gravelly slopes, in subalpine and alpine of Blue, Wallowa, and Steens mountains. There are 10-40 lavender to violet and occasionally white ray flowers measuring from 7-15 mm long on each flower head. The central disk flowers are yellow. The haydenii variety can be found almost all over the Pacific Northwest. Also the plants of this variety are smaller with stems occasionally...

About Robert Bales

Robert Bales

I am a retired teacher, coach and athletic director. While my wife, Judy, and I were teaching she had a photo studio, and I had a dark room where I did black and white and color. Some was for the studio while most of it was just a hobby. When we retired in 2000, we sold our house in Eastern Washington and moved onto our boat, Last Class, and our motorhome. We sold Last Class a few years ago and bought a small house in Yuma, Arizona and this year bought one in Emmett Idaho. Now we spend the summers in Emmett and the winters in Yuma. Over our 50 years of marriage, we have always had an interest in photography and still do. You may order any unframed photo from this website. Just email me at hay5bales@yahoo.com the name of the photo...
