My Mother Catherine Kearney grew up in one of the houses to the far left. Her Mother Nelllie Shea Kearney's Father Gerry Shea lived in the first house to left, a duplex whose neighbor was Peig Sayers. We grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts among a large number of people from the Blasket and Dun Quin. My Father was Tom Moore. I looked at this picture every day of my life as my Mother had it hanging above the kitchen table. She loved the Blasket and was so broken hearted when she decided to move to Springfield but it was a must to help her Island family well provided for. In 1962 she took me back to her home and to visit her mother and father whom she hadn't seen in 30 years. I got to visit with aunts and uncles and cousins with whom I still maintain contact. I visited the Island with m mother and found m way to this spot so I could have a picture with me looking down on the village.
