The art of Byzantine painting decorates the interior of orthodox churches. I create portable icons on plaster, lime mortar, artificially decayed giving the impression that these were part, of a wall, of a church, capable of transferring us into another time.
From prehistoric time until nowadays people use different materials for the creation of plaster. One of its usages was as an insulating material for the internal walls of the buildings, against weather conditions. These walls were the vehicle, where the artists put on their colors and created all these works of art that we still admire.
The mortar consists of materials that were always used by technicians, lime, marble dust, pumice, water. Ferrous minerals...
Welcome to my online shop. As long as I remember myself I paint. As a conservator for works of art I was influenced from the ancient wall paintings of Santorini. I developed the ancient technique that enables me to recreate art from the past. Nevertheless I use the same technique for different thematography such as landscapes and Byzantine art. Every piece is unique and entirely handmade.
