This is a blue Angel's Trumpet flower. It grows on a rather large bush which is loaded with these large flowers (up to 10 inches long) during blooming season. The flowers all hang upside down. The petals are rather thin so sunlight can shine through, transforming the flower into multiple shades of blue. The cluttered background was removed digitally so full attention is centered on the flower.

I used springs, electrical contacts and rubberbands to rig up the box camera's shutter to synchronize it to a homemade flashbulb holder, so I could photograph babies and toddlers, for pay, in their homes. I saved my earnings to accumulate sufficient funds to purchased a Kodak 35mm camera outfit in 1944. I continued this "business" through high school and into college.
