About the Image

Arapaho Dancer from Snowy Range Life by Dawn Senior-Trask

This is an individual relief from Snowy Range Life. Dawn took her 9-year-old nephew to the Arapaho Language Camp along the Little Wind River, where elders taught the children of the tribe their traditional language, skills, crafts and arts. The children especially loved it when the dancers and singers came and struck up the drumbeat. Dawn especially noticed this youngster, who danced with great gusto. She drew a sketch in her journal, the basis of this bronze. The original bronze is about 5 and a half inches in diameter.

About the Artist - Dawn Senior-Trask

Dawn Senior-Trask

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
