Lovely color for spring. Carol Robinson is a wonderful artist.

Artist's Description

This weathered shed in gray wood, with a red roof and rusted hinges, was part of a large agricultural enterprise run by Texas pioneer Robert Stark Armistead and his wife, Ann, who married in 1826 and came to Texas in 1835. The Armisteads settled here in Independence, Washington County, Texas, not far from Brenham. Mr. Armistead became a charter trustee of Baylor University in 1845.

Old oak trees shade this peaceful scene, photographed in color in April 2014 and rendered as a watercolor. The shed sits behind a classic barbed wire and wood post fence. Green grass dotted with wildflowers fill the foreground, and soft blue sky is seen through a gap in the scraggly old oak trees. A companion watercolor of this red-roof shed is available in this Gallery in horizontal orientation. A full-size uncropped horizontal image of the main barn is also available. All three images were shot by this photographer and rendered in watercolor to bring out their historic beauty.

About Connie Fox

Connie Fox

This true aesthetic loves beautiful things, from architecture to the intricate details of flowers and plants. A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. I enjoy making scenes look interesting and natural, as I saw them, and worthy of a place in your home, your office, your life. For 15 years I worked as a dental hygienist. Then I spent 25 years as an award-winning writer, graphic designer, and editorial consultant--skills I still use in this venue and in helping others with special projects. This unique background, requiring discernment and perfection, helps ensure the quality of my work. I hope you will...
