About the Image

Arriving at the Ball by Patricia Montgomery

This is one in a series of ink silhouettes created by Mitt Montgomery in 1933 when she was 18 years old. Mitt was my lovely mother-in-law, who died in 1999 at the age of 84. When she died, my husband and I inherited her artwork. These drawings were sketched first in pencil and then colored with black ink to create silhouettes. NOTE: After being stored for 78 years in a manila folder in poor conditions, the paper of the original drawings had become fragile, discolored, and spotty. I scanned the drawings and used Photoshop CS5 to clean up the background and add framing.

About the Artist - Patricia Montgomery

Patricia Montgomery

I took my first photograph as a small child looking down at the viewfinder of my motherís black, no-name box camera and then spent many years as a snap-happy teen using a Kodak Instamatic. I don't ever remember a time when I was without a camera. When the world of digital arrived on the scene, it changed my hobby to a creative passion for photography. My hubby and I have been happily traveling together for more than 20 years. When not on the road, we are tucked away in our rustic cabin high atop Bucks Mountain. During the warm days of spring, summer, and fall you might see me cruising by, top down on my little red Miata, hair blowing in the wind. You can rest assured that my camera is in the seat beside me! ...
