Arthurdale, West Virginia was an Eleanor Roosevelt project in the 1930s to take families from imporverished coal camps and provide federal government support to help them establish a self-sufficient community in the West Virginia countryside. It is now a museum.
About Steven Ainsworth
I grew up exploring the natural world along the Ohio River and in the woods on my father's farm in Southern Indiana. While studying environmental planning in the Architecture School at the University of Virginia, I added an interest in architecture to my love of natural landscapes. My work often is an exploration of how these two subjects interact together in natural light. Most of my images are from near my current home of Alexandria, Virginia, my former home of southern Indiana, and travels to various places in the U.S. with occasional foreign travel.
