Artist's Description
Deinonychus dinosaurs. Artwork of two Deinonychus (terrible claw") dinosaurs. Deinonychus was a predator with large eyes, a powerful jaw and a long, curved claw on its hind legs. This claw was held off the ground so that it remained sharp. The claw was probably used to slash at prey that was being held by Deinonychus' forearms. Multiple fossils of Deinonychus have been found near those of larger herbivorous dinosaurs, suggesting that it hunted big prey in packs. Deinonychus was about 3.3 metres long and as tall as a human. Its long, stiff tail counterbalanced its forward-leaning body as it ran on its hind legs. It lived about 110 million years ago during the Cretaceous period."
