Artist's Description
Aspergillus fungus spores, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). These chains of spores (blue) are the reproductive cells of the fruiting body, or conidiophore. The stalk is seen at lower right (purple). Inhalation of Aspergillus spores by individuals with a weakened respiratory system can cause an allergic reaction known as aspergillosis. Magnification x2000 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
