Inspired by the immense theatre at Ephesus in Turkey. This theatre is located near the coast and I have taken liberties to bring the sea a bit closer. This painting was featured in Artist and Illustrators magazine July 2001, and shows my fascination of the application of perspective. I love to study illustrations of perspective theory and tend to view the arena as a simple geometric object illuminated from a single light source viewed from a specific vantage point.
Born in Chester 1960, studied BA Fine Art (Sculpture) at Loughborough College of Art and Design and an MA in Art & Design (Painting) at Leeds Metropolitan University. First worked as a mechanic for London Bicycle Company and then as a ceramic technician for David Hilton Tableware in London for seven years, before becoming a 3D Design and Sculpture lecturer in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Moved to Hampshire to become Head of Art and Design in a Southampton, Sixth Form College and now Head of Art and Design at Peter Symonds College, Winchester.
