After a lengthy hike through this wilderness Provincial Park, I set up my easel right at the edge of McCarston�s Lake to do some plein air painting. It was a perfect day with only the geese to keep me company. The Mono Cliffs Provincial Park hike takes place among some of the oldest, intact, old growth White Cedar forests in eastern North America. Research has shown that some cedars have survived on the escarpment face for over 700 years and are now the oldest living trees in Ontario. Despite their age, they may be no more than five centimetres thick and a metre high. My ambition is to portray the everyday beauty around us, to draw attention to the minutiae of life, to chase that elusive light, that illumination that fascinates me in paintings. I also wish to tell stories…. of people, books and places. I am currently working on are the ever changing and delightful scenry in the Hills of Headwaters and surrounding area, narrative stories of a fictitious couple and also a series portraying my interpretations of scenes from the Narnia books by C. S. Lewis.
