This old mill was built in the 1850's and was in operation for about 100 years. Located a few miles west of Beloit, Wisconsin, it still serves as an educational center where cornmeal is ground. The mill is listed on the National Historic Places Registry.
The original painting won a State Award in the Wisconsin Regional Artists Program in 2012.
I am a retired pastor who has taken up acrylic painting as my retirement hobby. I've been painting seriously for the past 10 years or so, and find great relaxation and enjoyment in realistic painting, especially of God's creation and creatures. I also have a soft spot for old barns, and love to find barns that have character revealed in their structure which I try to capture in my paintings of them. I live in Southern Wisconsin, and am an avid outdoorsman, though health has restricted me from being the hunter I once was.
