...The old barns
at the Shields' dairy farm
in western North Carolina
are painted a nice vintage red...
These barns are 100 years old
and the farm is
a family-owned business.
The cows are bred
and have their babies
on a neighboring farm
where they can have peace and quiet.
The boys are sold
and the girls are kept for milking.
The family has lots of land
to grow corn and grass
to feed the cows.
This image was captured at sunrise,
a touch of fog commonly
settling on the valley,
the sun's rays glowing
through the mist and trees
on the edge of the pasture.
The grass is green in the late Spring
and the calves pose for the camera
as their interest is piqued to see
if a treat is going to be offered!
