I took this picture at Berkeley Plantation in Charles City, VA. I was the only person on the grounds at the time and it was absolutely beautiful, but also spiritual and heart wrenching. The view of the water is where the slave and cargo ships would come in and dock, so this side of the plantation is actually the front of the property. I could almost hear the slaves singing and working while I was there. It was quite an experience that I will never forget!
I am mainly a self-taught photographer. I fell in love with photography in the early 70's when I took a photography course at a local university while on summer vacation one year. I really kicked it up a notch at Saint Paul's Baptist Church in Richmond, VA by starting the photography ministry in 1992. The ministry has really grown to quite a few photographers, and now I have a very busy and thriving phography business called Photos By Imani.
I believe there is always something to learn about photography and I am always eager to see what's new and how to do what I do better. I treat each client as if they're my only client and my goal is to satisfy them with a very professional product they are happy to refer others to.
