Love the painting and the rich colorful blues, reds, greens, & yellows! A nice addition to our cowboy/southwest decor vibe.

Beautifully expressed rendition of the Shrine of the Bab. The frame and matting showcase the print. We have it prominently on our living room wall with other sacred pictures.

I think the frame and mat work very well with this, it is really impressive in person. Grouped with a small Grant Wood with high quality lighting it sets the mood for a Georgia farmhouse.

Artist's Description
Bishop Frederic Baraga was the first bishop of the Diocese of Marquette, MI (mid-19th century). He is popularly known as the Snowshoe Priest because of his frequent use of that footgear on his tireless journeys around the UP and northern LP of Michigan, visiting parishes churches and mission sites, ministering to both native Americans and European settlers. Pictured in the background are the present cathedral church at Marquette, MI (where Baraga is buried), and a small chapel built in the UP during Baraga's time. In the sky behind the figure is a faint outline map of the heart of Baraga's mission territory. Baraga was a well-loved priest when he lived, and through the years has has had a devoted following in Michigan and beyond. Bishop Baraga was recently declared "venerable" by the Vatican--an important step toward eventual canonization as a saint of the Church.

In 2002 I converted to the Catholic faith and a few years later started making icons of Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saints, inspired mainly by the work of Byzantine mosaic artists whose pictures have adorned the walls of Eastern Orthdox churches for centuries. I also draw on themes and elements found in Orthodox panel icons and Western religious art of all sorts. My work is unique and innovative in may ways, yet very traditional in terms of the religious intent behind making icons in the first place, and I do consider that I am working in the living tradition of iconography that goes back very nearly to the time of...
