I am guessing the Big Sur area on the Pacific Coast! ..such a lovely area! v

Joe Schofield replied:

Hey Anne! Yes, exavly...the northern end of the big sur coast...

If that's in the Big Sur area, I am pretty sure I've been on that bridge before, although it's been more than ten years! Very well done! I love the sharp detail you captured in this, and the way you composed the photograph so the bridge leads the eye along the shoreline is perfect! f/w/v

Joe Schofield replied:

Thanks, Greg. Yeah, this is the Bixby Bridge, up along the northern end of the big sur coast. Its a remarkable structure...

Artist's Description

Bixby Creek Bridge, also known as Bixby Bridge, is a reinforced concrete open-spandrel arch bridge in Big Sur, California. The bridge is located 120 miles (190 km) south of San Francisco and 13 miles (21 km) south of Carmel in Monterey County along California Highway One. Prior to the opening of the bridge in 1932, residents of the Big Sur area were virtually cut off during winter due to the often impassable Old Coast Road that led 11 miles (18 km) inland. At its completion, the bridge was built under budget for $199,861 and was the longest concrete arch span at 320 feet (98 m) on the California State Highway System. It is one of the tallest single-span concrete bridges in the world[2] and one of the most photographed bridges along the Pacific Coast due to its aesthetic design and location

About Joe Schofield

Joe Schofield

As a kid I was fascinated with photographs. Look, Life magazine. National Geographic. That well-captured interplay of light and shadow...the notion of people, places and moments - all suspended in time. My first "real" camera was a Minolta Srt101. I was seduced. I learned how to develop film, and I still recall the smell of the developer...my eyes adjusting to the red filter light...and the magic and delight of watching images begin to emerge. Life, family and a career intervened, and then...there was digital. Liberation! At this point in my life, photography is the creative medium that allows me to share personal moments and adventures. In some sense, I feel it conveys who I am, and soothes the darker moments ......
