It is known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles over much of the interior. The Blue Mosque was built between 1609 and 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. The architect incorporated the ideas of his mentor, Sinan, in the design of the mosque, aiming for overwhelming size and splendor. It has 6 minarets which were initially a matter of contention since 4 minarets were the common maximum. Luckily this coincided with an interest in 35 mm photography which I learned on my own and from friends.
