Artist's Description

Bonelli telegraph. Historical illustration of the apparatus used for the telegraph designed by Italian inventor Gaetano Bonelli (1815-1867). A weight powers the mechanism which includes a timer (left). The output is printed at upper right. Bonelli made several inventions relating to telegraphy and photography. He was the director of telegraph services in Turin and one of the founders of Bonelli's Electric Telegraph Company (1860 to 1864). Artwork from 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
