Artist's Description

The Club Andino's old ski hut on Mt Chacaltaya during a blizzard. Mt Chacaltaya is a short drive from Bolivia's capital La Paz and used to be famous as having the worlds highest ski lift. The lift and hut were built in 1939 and are at an altitude of approx 5100m / 16,700ft. Since the 1980s the mountain's glacier has all but vanished and now has no permanent ice; it if often cited as one of the most dramatic examples of the effect of global warming in the Andes.
