Wisconsin Waterfowl Stamp competition finalist I have studied the geese passing through Wisconsin every spring and fall. With all the boisterous activity of the migration, it is the smooth, fluid motion of them gracefully cruising along the calm water that drew me to paint this scene. Canada geese are another one of those big birds that fascinate me. They are large, powerful birds with an attitude, yet they can be so graceful on the water and in flight. There is hardly a sight more overwhelming than the migration in Central Wisconsin. Between the Horicon Marsh and the Mead Wildlife Refuge, Central Wisconsin skies in the spring and fall are filled with continuous patterns of migrating waterfowl. What is an artist? While labels are defining and can be helpful, they are also limiting. I prefer to think in terms of limitless possibilities. Iíve been drawing and painting since I was a child. My mother was an artist. A very talented woman that would put us to bed and then take out her art supplies and paint well into the night. She created many works of art and traveled around the art show circuit selling her paintings. Her influence on me was inspiring. When I was older I realized I always had a desire to create things since a very young age. I liked to take things apart just to see how they were made and try to find a better way to build them.
