The Yuba River is one of California's most beautiful rivers. Its headwaters start high in the Sierras above Lake Tahoe and finish the journey in the San Francisco Bay.
The photographs have all been taken in Nevada County, CA, outside of the 49er Gold Rush town of Nevada City.
In the 1970's the river was threatened with many dam and hydroelectric projects. The local citizens formed an organization called the South Yuba River Citizens League, SYRCL. After 10 years of hard work SYRCL was able to obtain Wild and Scenic River status for the river, thus preserving its natural beauty for everyone for generations to come. From these images, you can see that it was worth the effort.
I have lived in Nevada City, California, a small artists community, for 34 years. Nevada City is in the Gold Country of the Sierras, 2 1/2 hours from San Francisco. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I have lived and worked as a Teacher in Japan and Peru, teaching in the American Overseas Schools system. I have also worked in London in construction and remodeling.
I have been a photographer since my first photo of Yosemite Falls with a Brownie when I was 8 years old. My real interest started in my 20's when I lived in Japan. Since that time I have traveled and photographed in more than 50 countries.
In 2009 I photographed in Iceland, Sardinia and mainland Italy. In March and April, 2013, I spent 5 weeks in Australia...
