Can you see a carp and the man to catch it around the big rock in the pond? Actually this fish shouldn't be so big comparing the size of the rock. But in Ukiyoe, we can freely change the size. Yes, that's what you call "deformation". So Ukiyoe lies at the basic of today's manga and animation boom.
About Aquira Kusume
I was born on October 20th in 1940, in Kochi, Japan. I began to draw a picture when I was five years old. I stayed in Nagasaki till I graduated from the high school and entered English Literature Department of Doshisha University in Kyoto. I graduated from it in 1965, and got a job as an English teacher of Osaka municipal high school. In 2000, I retired from the job and became free. After the retirement I have enough free time to draw or paint till today. I used to paint abstract, but now concrete (landscape) mainly. I've never attended any art school, and I learned art for myself. I've tried many kinds of art styles, like Unkiyo-e, Sumi-e, Hari-e, Kakejiku, pencil, pen & ink, drawing, painting, etc. I'm not a genius, but a man of...
