Stein Family Wines 2009 Los Carneros Semi-Dry Gewurztraminer pouring into a glass.
I remember that I was 9 years old when I decided that I wanted to be a photographer. In science class we made a pinhole camera from a shoebox and a piece of aluminum foil. By placing a piece of photo paper in the box and exposing the paper to light let in through the pinhole in the foil we were able to develop a reverse image of the scene. I studied graphic arts at Coldwater High School in Michigan and upon graduation I joined the US Navy as a photographer. In the Navy I worked Washington DC as the staff photographer for Rear Admiral Wallace R. Dowd, Jr. Chief of the Naval Supply Corps and then Naval Photographic Command. After reenlistment I worked at the Fleet Air Photo Lab at Cubi Point Naval Air Station in Luzon, Philippines....

A warm welcome to you and our All About Wine FIRST PLACE image from the Wine Growing Pouring and Enjoying group. We are honored to have you and look forward to much more of your amazing work. This is a stunning piece as the contest proved and I enjoy your comments on much time you took in preparing the shot. F/v of course.
Dennis James replied:
Thank you very much. The wine actually was a Stein Family Wines 2009 Los Carneros Semi-Dry Gewurztraminer. I did the shot for Josh Stein so I was sure to use his wine. I was sad that the shot cost me a half a bottle of this awesome sold out wine.

PS I find I have more to say about this fantastic image. I encourage viewers to use the full resolution option from top to bottom. Doing so will reveal wonderful marvels such as mini rainbows in the flow of wine as well as golden constellations created by the bubbles. And, if you listen closely, you'll hear the sound of the wine pouring into the glass.
Dennis James replied:
Thank you so much. This is a perfect example of us old school photographers making a shot. I cut the bottom out of the bottle and it is mounted and the angle that created the perfect pour of a measured amount of wine. Hard work pays off.
