Tiny Chora Church on the edge of Istanbul Turkey is home to some of the best examples of Byzantine mosaics. This square domed nave is the oldest section of the building, dating from around 1100. the marble niche a little to the right of center is the mihrab, which was added by the Musslim Ottomans when this church became a mosque. Representing a symbolic doorway leading the hold city of Mecca, the mihrab shows Muslims the correct direction in which to pray.
