I began painting when I was fifteen, using oils on canvas. I found it to be therapeutic - both calming and intriguing.
It was a beautiful and fascinating way to find the centre within the self, and then, to connect with others.
I was inspired by many artists that I had heard of - Gauguin, Matisse, Chagall, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, CÚzanne, Picasso ... I studied their works and their lives, whenever I could. I came to understand that art was more than recreating images. It had everything to do with energy, feeling, colour, juxtaposition of elements, light, always light - and breathing. I often found my paintings were teaching me how to paint as I was painting them.
