Lookout, you will find the first and oldest professional observatory facility in the United States. Former President John Quincy Adams who loved the science of astronomy, laid the cornerstone of this building in 1843. The original telescope, an 11 inch wood and brass refractor dates back to 1842 and still works today. A newer and larger 16 inch refractor was made in 1904 that is also still in use.
