This piece is a photo I took in Philly of the side of a building that was in the process of being torn down. Layers of paint, bricks and rectangular spaces that represent the ghosts of many years of living by many people, have naturally created an abstract piece. I have added some very slight digital enhancement to reveal even more ghosts to the surface.

Roxanne Bohana

I work as an abstract expressionist painter and screen printer primarily. I work combining media, including silkscreen, acrylic, colored pencil and watercolor crayon (caran d'ache), creating monoprints. I mix media to mimic the layering and destruction of the different elements of the city environment that I live in. I take pictures around the city and make them into silkscreens that I use in my work. I work on canvas and paper and digital image. My interest is to conceptually interpret the deterioration of the city and explore it's juxtaposition to new development. I am inspired by the many cultures and colors, sounds and smells found in New York City. The way the city is structured, an interesting amalgam of the old and the rusting...
