Color theory in art describes the basic rules for mixing colors to achieve a desired artistic affect. It formalizes the relationship between colors and attempts to assign emotions to various colors and color combinations. In many art classes, painting a color wheel, or creating a work that demonstrates the interplay of colors, is a requirement. This colorful image is of a silicon wafer with custom designed chips called ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuit). Through the use of colored gels on lights and a little multi-imaging, I brought out some of the interesting features of this chip.
You might notice that the chip is symmetrical, perhaps even duplicated, and you’d be right. This chip does have duplicate circuits for high reliability. It is common in sophisticated computers and systems to dedicate 25-50% of their circuits for backup in case of failure. This duplication provides a very interesting design.
