About the Artist - John YATO


John Yato was born near the scenic view of the Fuji mountains in Japan. The tranquil surrounding of trees, small trees and rice fields influenced his artwork. He began doing art in first grade and was able to express his thoughts through drawing. At the age of 9, his family decided to move to Southern California and eventually ended up in San Diego in 1959. Faced with the difficulty of learning English as a second language, drawing became means of everyday communication. In senior year of high school he received the artist of the year award. He also attended San Diego City College and obtained a commercial arts degree. This is where watercolor painting was introduced, from his instructor Mr. Harvey Adams, whom to this day he admires and is...
