Creating drawings like this is Way Better than watching TV.... Thank you George Buxbaum

Grazie Giada & Roberto. Ho visitato Roma durante la Settimana della Cultura Italiana nel 2011. Ho passato molte ore intorno al Colosseo in diversi momenti del giorno e della notte per creare una vista non tradizionale.

Favorited and Voted! Dear Norman, you are a MASTER!

Original angle and splendid work, love your descriptions too! v,f

Awesome composition Norman!

Norman Bean replied:

Thank you Pristine, The Colosseo drawing was a bit challenging to create. I did stand there looking into the de-constructed hallways wondering how to picture what I had in my mind's eye. A bit of the late afternoon light, and a bit of the evening indoor lighting. I like your whimsical paintings: Wedding Dia de los Muertos...

Thank you Andy, It is gratifying when folks reach out....

Congratulations on the sale of you art, may you sell many more.

I really like this! It was nice to talk to you today :-)

Thank you. I enjoyed creating this image. The angle is standing by the Arco di Costantino looking up at the Colosseo. Sort of a combination of afternoon and early evening light and shade. Lots of history, many stories.

how intricate?!! love the details!

Stunning art work.

Norman, this one still baffles me at the beautiful detail you have drawn!

Norman Bean replied:

There is more where that came from....Thank You!

Artist's Description

COLOSSEO 2010, graphite on paper, 12.5 x 14 Rome, Italy, the Flavian Amphitheater, aka the Colosseum, built by Vespasian and his son Titus between AD 69 and AD 80, was in continuous use to AD 523. The colosseum was named after the bronze statue of Nero, about 120 feet tall, ca. AD 64, placed near by. This drawing looks inside the passage ways of the outer two rings and up at the inside of the still standing north outer wall. Constructed of square blocks of travertine, tufa, brick and marble, the structure contained 80 arches around the circumference, and four levels of seating for about 70,000 people. In the 1000 years between 550 and 1550 the Colosseum was used to house many activities. Plundered through the centuries for its stone, marble facing and metal clamps that held stones in place, the entire south wall and rings were de-constructed and used in other monumental buildings in Rome, including Saint Peters Basilica. Restoration, reconstruction and capping of the remaining...

About Norman Bean

Norman Bean

Norman's inspirations have been actively meeting paper for eight years. He has always depicted things around him in various ways, in many media, creating drawings and paintings, dabbling at artistic projects, honing talents, learning lessons, giving his work as gifts to friends and family, and seeing who actually hung it on their walls. Norman was raised in Texas, educated in public schools and finally escaped captivity in 1971. He wandered Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and finally migrated back to Texas in 1980. After arriving in Austin he focused on making a living practicing another art form, restoring antique motorcycles. In his spare time Norman played keyboard in rock bands, promoting...
