Description
The temperature was well in excess of 100 degrees when I drove past this construction site. As I walked up, I noticed this worker, profusely sweating, as he shoveled sand. I loved how the lines of the sand and of the trees focused attention onto him as he toiled in the heat. The shovel handle added yet another diagonal line, all of which lead the eye through the image.
Since the day I first took this image, whenever the temperature hits an extreme, I remember this shot. I remember this gentleman working in the heat without complaint, and I appreciate all workers who work so hard to complete the jobs that most of us would not undertake.
This is photography old school. Shot on was tri-x, developed in D-76, and printed with a Beseler 23CIIXL with a condenser head. As such, you will notice the wonderful film grain in this print, something that we don't see anymore, but that adds its own element for those of us who still miss the smell of photo chemicals and solitude of a darkroom.
