William Van Doren

William Van Doren, a native of Virginia, began painting, self-taught, while still a student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Soon he was selling his work to individuals in Baltimore and New York. Later, while supporting himself as an editor, ghostwriter, and publications designer in New York and Los Angeles, he continued developing his art. In 1995, in Virginia, he began painting the sunset, and on January 1, 2006, began painting the sunset from each day, in a series called The Very Rich Hours -- a series now approaching its ninth year. In 2009, after attending Barack Obama's inauguration, he created a series of 21 sunrise and sunset paintings from that historic day. In 2010 he began his Tabula Rosa series of red paintings. In...
