This is a studio painting done from a photograph taken on a rafting trip. For some areas I used a 2" wide brush. The brushwork is big and bold like the canyon itself, and this painting succeeds in capturing some of the impact you feel at the Grand Canyon.
Growing up in a rural midwestern town, Cody was instilled at an early age with a solid work ethic and an affinity for nature and all its beauty. A natural artist, Cody has been drawing and painting since the age of five and is contiually inspired by the west which has been his home for most of his adult life.
A passionate life-long student of art Cody has studied at the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Scottsdale Artists School, where, in 2003 he was awarded a merit-based scholarship. In 2004, the Oil Painters of America selected him as that year's Shirl Smithson Scholarship winner ($1000).
