I love the artist and usually purchase her originals or prints and have been extremely satisfied with them, but this original and some others were sold so I purchased cards to frame. I have to comment that this card was a little dark and if it could be lightened a little, it would better represent the artwork. The artist is one of my favorites.

Artist's Description
Eagle Island Lightouse, Casco Bay Maine with one of it's namesakes, a bald eagle soaring overhead. There are seven other Eagle Islands on the coast of Maine but, this is the most photographed and painted.
This Eagle Island was also the home of Admiral Robert E. Peary who discovered the North Pole. The Island is a state park and Peary's home is now a museum. This Eagle Island is about 1-1/4 miles long by half a mile wide and is located where Isle au Haut Bay meets E.Penobscot Bay.
The lighthouse was commissioned in 1838. In 1857 the wooden keeper's dwelling was built.
Conditions were very primitive at Eagle Island Lighthouse. The first keepers had to supply their own boat, and it wasn't until 1919 that the government provided a dory for the station. Keepers had to row 2 miles to Deer Island Light for supplies. Steam heat was added in 1908 and an indoor toilet in 1949.
