A big storm lashed Cocoa Beach, Florida. A fishing boat from Port Canaveral couldn't quite make it back to port. She had been out to sea and was on her way back when she lost power. Port Canaveral is the neighboring city north of Cocoa Beach. She drifted helplessly in the storm. As you can see from this painting, it ran aground and tipped over a little. All the fisherman made it to land safely. She stayed there for a few days before it was finally removed.

This gave me an opportunity to do several paintings of it. This is one of my favorite ones. It is a 14 inch by 21 inch water color painting. The flag flew the entire time that it was on the beach. Each day that I went out to the location to do a painting, it looked different. Not only were various parts being removed by beach goers, but the water and weather battered it. Although born in upstate New York, I grew up mostly in Nevada and California. The fabulous panoramic views of the far west inspired me to begin painting and photographing it’s beauty. I’ve lived in various areas in the states and in Europe but always had the desire to express through painting and photography. While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography.
