Artist's Description

Embryo inside a fallopian tube. Computer artwork representing an embryo (yellow) in the early stages of development inside a fallopian tube. Fallopian tubes lead from the ovaries to the uterus. On maturity an ovum (egg) enters the fallopian tube and travels towards the uterus. If the ovum is fertilized while in the fallopian tube, then the resulting embryo will normally implant in the endometrium of the uterus, signalling the beginning of pregnancy. Occasionally the embryo implants into the fallopian tube instead of the uterus, creating an ectopic pregnancy.
