North Stockton may be defined by Eight Mile Road that turns into Empire Tract Road when travelling west into the heartland of California's central valley farming regions. At the edge of the levy where Empire Tract Road meets Bacon Island Road near Little Connection Slough the road does not bridge the delta waters and the ferry is not always available to run, if even there! So, there I was, "stuck" in a beautiful expanse after driving some distance on terminally rough and sloped roads set at 25 mph due to eroded shoulders and pot holes.
