at Grassy Waters preserve.
The swamp is still and calm,
perfect reflections
in this cypress tree forest.
Just at dawn,
the sun glows radiantly
over the marsh grasses
and lily pads.
A light foggy mist
hangs over the glade,
capturing the peach colors
of dawn.
These cypress trees are gnarled
and full of interesting shapes,
their dark reflections
are black silhouettes
in the shallow water.
The trees' roots show up
crawling along the earth's surface,
their knees capturing
the fresh air and nutrients,
to travel up to the branches
and leaves...
