About the Image

Epsilon Eridani a stellar Spire in Eagle Nebula by Jim Ellis

Hubble Space Telescope, NASA, photographed this Truncated Stellar Spire in Eagle Nebula. Referred to as a Stellar Stars Nursery, the entire spire is a soaring tower of billowing cold gas and dust 9.5 light-years away or about 57 trillion miles distant. The photograph involves roughly the mid-third of the tower. The dominant colors are produced by energized gas from the star clusters powerful ultraviolet light. The red color in the lower region is from glowing hydrogen.

About the Artist - Jim Ellis

Jim Ellis

A native Texan, my venture into art came when I was forced to leave my graphics design career, I first began painting abstracts and landscapes until I was exposed to photographs taken by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) of deep outer space. The photographs had about them beauty, mystery and revelation of objects previously unseen, much less photographed. Deep outer space, once a mystery, was now being discovered with supporting documentation by HST, Chandra, other countries' space telescopes. The photos were stunningly beautiful, intriguing, addressing the artistic point of view. The scientific value of the photographs will be evaluated by the astronomers and scientists Several years ago, HST subjects became the main thrust of my work...
