In the Yakima Valley, you can still find many produce stands right on the farmer's own land, selling produce he and others around grow and bring in fresh each morning. On a recent visit I found out that these produce stands open as early as 6:00 am and stay open for 11 to 12 hours. Many of them have sorting and packing facilities next to the public market where you can watch as it's delivered, sorted and carefully placed in boxes for shipping. If you visit there at this time of the year, you'll enjoy the taste of fresh fruits and vegetables that surpass the taste of anything you can find in the grocery store!

The tastiest tomatoes in their deep red skins are wonderful, and sweet corn is my favorite. Many of the stands decorate for Fall, or have pumpkin patches and Fall activities.
