About the Image

Farolitos Saint Francis De Paula Mission by Bob Christopher

Paper bags with sand in the bottom and a candle are put out in rows at churches, missions and on private properties throughout the Southern USA and other parts of the World on Christmas Eve.It is a lovely sight to see and to photograph. Here the luminaria/farolitos are set out in Tularosa, New Mexico. Luminaria means "Festival Lights" and Farolito means "Little Lantern". Catholics hope that the lights will guide the Spirit of the Christ Child to their homes.
