Rittenhouse transforms a simple retail product whose typical use is for presents and gifts and then discarded, dramatically breathing new life into these sheer pieces of tissue paper, creating large and small art works through a painting process where she rips, tears and sometimes cuts to create images and patterns that form these images of childhood innocence and erotic nudes surrounded by realistic looking fabric. The process has been mastered and changed from 3 dimensional art with wire to large scale paintings over the course of several years where she learned the complex color theory of mimicking fabrics, landscapes and human skin.
