Artist's Description
Female pelvic region, artwork. This sagittal section through the female pelvic region shows the anus and rectum (right, the final part of the digestive system), and the base of the backbone (cream blocks). The uterus (centre) and its ovaries and oviducts are the organs of the female reproductive system. During the monthly ovulation cycle, an egg from an ovary passes down an oviduct to the uterus, and either implants there (if fertilised) or exits the body through the vagina during menstruation (along with the uterine lining). Between the uterus and the pubic bone is the bladder (brown) from which urine exits the body via the urethra.
