In 1932 Marguerite Brunswig Staude, an Oak Creek resident, artist and rancher had a reoccurring vision of a cross on the newly completed Empire State Building in New York. The cross became a recurring theme in her life during the next 25 years. She felt inspired to get the assistance of architect Frank Lloyd Wright and to build a skyscraper cathedral in Europe. When World War II broke out, they temporally cancelled their plans.
Staude kept an eye out all over Europe and the USA for the ideal location, and she was especially struck by the beauty of neighboring Sedona. She decided to build her chapel here, which would be "a monument to faith, but a spiritual fortress so charged with God, that it spurs man's spirit godward." Finally in 1955, her dream was realized with the building of the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona. The Chapel of the Holy Cross was completed in April 1956.

For me, this adventure began with a single spring image using a small Kodak film camera of a freshly watered central Kansas ditch and has come full circle using modern digital techniques. My first camera was acquired by trading an ancient Royal typewriter to a fellow college student who was desperate to finish a term paper. It was a long time ago and that camera was my passport to an art that has fascinated me ever since. I owned and operated a professional studio in central Kansas for 20 years and moved to Colorado in 1994.
